Purity of Life

"How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word...Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee" (Ps.119:9,11).

Purity of heart is the prerequisite for clarity in our vision of God. The psalmist, therefore, asks how a person can truly have a pure heart and life. The answer is quite simply. The Word of God in us and lived out through us produces purity of life. It has the ability to cleanse us from everything that is unlike Christ. Jesus said,"You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me" (John 5:39).

They are the standard of God by which we measure ourselves. From Genesis to Revelation, they are the testimony of Jesus. He is our standard. When we read the Scriptures, we see how unlike Him we really are, which produces brokenness, repentance, and cleansing in our hearts. Then we are in a spiritual position to clearly see God and worship Him.
