Worship in Truth
by Sammy Tippit

The only way in which it is possible for us to "feed on Christ" is through the Word of God. Simply to study the Bible from an intellectual standpoint in order to know it is not to feed on Him; and, moreover, such study is not sufficient. On the other hand, to attempt to know Christ and to feed on Christ apart from the Bible is impossible because God has ordained that as the vehicle of His communication to man. G. Campbell Morgan

God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth. John 4:24

Throughout the ages, the light of the glory of God has burst into hearts of men and women through the ministry of the Word of God. Martin Luther read the Scriptures for the first time in an Augustinian monastery. His life would never be the same after meditating on the truth found in that Book. He discovered the wonder, glory, and loveliness of Jesus. The Book Luther read would produce a Reformation of an entire society.

Anytime and anywhere people have discovered the truth of the Scriptures, it has resulted in a great awakening of their hearts to worship the Lord Jesus. It was preaching of the Bible that brought me into a personal and eternal relationship with God. It has been the constant study and meditation on the Scripture that has kept a freshness in my love relationship with the Savior. Every day I'm able to discover some jewel in His character through the Word of God.

My first pastorate was at the Hahn Baptist Church in Hahn, West Germany. A wise old pastor encouraged me to preach expositorily verse by verse through the Bible. I accepted his encouragement and began preaching through the book of Genesis. It took me close to three years to preach completely through Genesis. I discovered during those years how great and awesome our God is. I also discovered that the Bible was food for the souls of the people. People filled the church. We had to move into the local high school because of lack of space in the church facilities. Worship services became exciting. People came with hearts hungry to learn more of the Savior.
